Dr. Melanie Hafford joins the Medical and Surgical Clinic of Irving as a Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgeon. She is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and a fellow in the American College of Surgeons. Growing up outside of Atlanta, Georgia, her interests in medicine and public health were cultivated at Emory University and the Medical College of Georgia. After completion of her surgical residency at UT Southwestern, she pursued specialty training in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive surgery at the Methodist Hospital, making her an expert in the comprehensive care of bariatric patients.
Dr. Hafford’s practice includes bariatric surgery (laparoscopic gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and revisions), laparoscopic foregut surgery (Nissen fundoplication), advanced upper endoscopy, and advanced laparoscopic general surgery (inguinal/ventral hernias, cholecystectomy, splenectomy, etc). Nationally, Dr. Hafford is an active member in the Society of American and Gastrointestinal Surgeons (SAGES) and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS) and she serves on several committees.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hafford enjoys spending time with her husband and family, travelling to new places, and reading avidly.
